Camper Stop Sierra Espuna, Totana, Spain

Now this is a cracking little find! Camper Stop Sierra Espuna is located just a few minutes drive from the motorway, just outside of Totana. I had heard about it after reading a forum post written by the owners neighbour last year.

This is basically a posh aire. In other words, there are no ‘campsite’ facilities but you do get full service – water, electricity, waste disposal and even WiFi. In addition, you get a beautiful site in very pleasant surroundings with some stunning scenery.
The site itself is big enough for around 25 motorhomes and is split-level (a concrete ramp dividing the two areas). There is also a great little walkway which takes you to a picnic area away from the main parking area. Being relatively new, everything is lovely and neat – from the graveled parking area to the newly planted trees and shrubs. Equally the service points are all clean and working properly.
It costs €10 a night to stay at the site and this includes electricity and WiFi. I was the only person on the site for the duration of my three night stay and I have to say, it was lovely. That said, the owner deserves to have this place completely packed as it is a fantastic place at a great price. I can see it would be attractive for longer stays in the winter and I would have no hesitation in staying for a few weeks to get away from the cold British weather.
If you like cycling, walking or running, there is plenty to keep you occupied. After my Alpe d’Huez experience last week, I decided to make an early start and cycle up the nearest mountain. It was only 6km and although fairly steep, was nothing compared to my 14km Alpe d’Huez nightmare a few days ago! What I hadn’t taken into account though was the heat. Despite leaving at 8.30am, it was still blisteringly hot and very hard to get a decent pace going. I made it to the top where there is a huge statue of Jesus and some fantastic views. The ride back down took considerably less effort (as well as a fraction of the time!)
Although I haven’t used huge numbers of aires or camping sites, I can definitely say that this one is my favourite so far. I guess it will be a slightly different place once it is full with 24 other motorhomes and I have been spoilt having the place to myself. I’m torn really between recommending the site and keeping it as my own little secret! That wouldn’t be fair to the owners though, they have done a great job of laying the site out and deserve for it to be a success. If you are ever in this part of Spain, I strongly recommend you check out Camper Stop Sierra Espuna. I really don’t think you will regret it!

Een hele mooie, schone plek met vriendelijke engels sprekende eigenaar. Aanrijden richting Aledo, voor kanaaltje rechts. Doorrijden tot camperbord.

Just had 4 nights on the new aire at Totana, at the foot of the Sierra Espuna hills. Very impressed by the neat, well laid out site. The owners speak English and are very helpful. They are also keen to receive suggestions for improving the site further, but how far do you go before it becomes a campsite?

Our interest is walking and mountain biking, and this area is superb for these, but it is also good for road biking, running, orienteering, climbing. Or just somewhere quiet to chill out, away from the hurly burly of the coast. Handy for a stopover from the A7.

Free wifi, level hardstanding, 7euros per night plus 3euros for 6amps elec. And you big boys will get on OK. Nearest shops/banks about 3km; we cycled to Consum this morning but I guess the bread and veg vans will start calling as interest picks up.

Amazingly, we were the only van on for the whole 4 nights? Where is everybody? There were more vans in Lidl carpark at Mazarron. Their website is camperstopsierraespuna.blogspot.com. I notice it is in the database already so I have added a review.

We thought there were definitely fewer people down here last year - and at the moment it seems even quieter than last year. Do other sites seem quieter. I suppose it means we will be able to move around easily without fear of not being able to get on.
